About this speaker
Leona’s quilting journey began over 16 years ago with a visit to a local quilt shop, where
she was captivated by the stunning quilts and vibrant fabrics. Within weeks, she upgraded
her sewing machine, took multiple classes, and within a year, invested in a Longarm
machine to create quilts from start to finish.
Originally from Ireland, Leona grew up surrounded by the intricate beauty of Celtic
design. Her fascination with Celtic knots began with a school visit to the Book of Kells,
where she became mesmerized by the flowing, interwoven strands symbolizing
continuity and connection. This inspiration remains at the heart of her quilting, which
features Celtic designs through piecing, embroidery, and Longarm quilting.
With a background in high tech, Leona naturally gravitated toward the computerized
aspects of quilting. In 2012, she became a Certified Art and Stitch Instructor, combining
her technical expertise with her passion for design. She loves teaching her Celtic Love
Knot Workshop, delighting as students uncover the magic of how intricate knots come
together. For Leona, quilting is not just about creating beautiful pieces—it’s about
preserving and sharing her rich cultural heritage
