About this speaker
Laureen Smith is a recovering corporate director, who is embracing her creative drive by picking up her needles again. She honed artistic talents with needlepoint, cross stitch, sewing, crocheting, and quilting, which her mother and grandmother fostered from a very early age. She combines her formal engineering education with her artistic passion to create new quilt patterns and techniques.
Always one to take the road less traveled, Laureen experiments and tends break the traditional "rules" of quilting. That out of the block thinking has led to her unique brand of three-dimensional applique. She uses this technique to create stunning small quilts that are the perfect media for embellishing.
Laureen also designs patterns for several different fabric manufacturers. These patterns are available on her website or free from the manufacturers. She enjoys the challenge of receiving the fabrics, making new designs for their approval, and then developing the patterns to accompany them.
